When it comes to big decisions in business, there’s often a lot of debate and discussion before a final decision is made.
This is especially true when it comes to installing a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
We recently conducted a poll in which we asked Finance Professionals and Business Leaders:
Who should have the ultimate sign-off on a new ERP system?
The results were clear:
- 35% of respondents said it should be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
- 29% of respondents said it should be the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- 18% of respondents said it should be the Chief Technical Officer (CTO)
- 18% of respondents said it should be the Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Although the results of this poll indicate that the CEO should be the most likely person to ultimately sign off on any new ERP system closely followed by the CFO, it’s important to consider the opinions of other key stakeholders when making such a critical decision.
At least one member from IT, Operations and Finance should be involved in the decision-making process, as well as any other departments that may be affected by the new system. This ensures everyone has an opportunity to voice their opinions and allows for informed decisions to be made.
Ultimately, the decision should be in line with your organisation’s overall strategic objectives and priorities.
A thorough cost-benefit analysis should also be conducted to ensure the new system will have a positive impact on the bottom line.
Once all stakeholders have had their say and the decision has been made, it should be signed off by the C-suite member who is most closely involved with this type of project. This could be the CEO, CFO, COO or CTO depending on your organisation’s structure.
Having the right person sign off on a new system is essential to ensure it is implemented smoothly and successfully.
By following this approach, you can rest assured that everyone in your organisation has had their say and their interests have been taken into account.
This will help ensure the ERP system meets the needs of your company now and in the future.
