What Is NetSuite AI? A Practical Guide to NetSuite Next, Ask Oracle & AI Agents

What Is NetSuite AI? A Practical Guide to NetSuite Next, Ask Oracle & AI Agents

If you’ve been watching the NetSuite space over the past year, you’ll know that AI has gone from a buzzword in their keynotes to something showing up in actual use cases. Especially since the NetSuite 2026.1 release, AI has been very prominent in the Oracle product.

What is NetSuite AI?

NetSuite AI covers three layers. There’s the embedded intelligence already in your account (anomaly detection, Text Enhance, predictive analytics in NSAW). There’s NetSuite Next, which is the redesigned platform announced at SuiteWorld in October 2025, built around Ask Oracle, AI canvas, and agentic workflows. And there are standalone AI-enhanced modules, such as EPM and the NetSuite Analytics Warehouse, that extend those capabilities further. What separates all of this from the SuiteFlow automations is that rule-based tools do what you tell them to. These newer capabilities manoeuvre across your data, surface things you didn’t think to ask for, and interact in plain language. That’s a meaningful shift, but it also means preparation matters more than it used to.

Unified Data Foundation

Finance, CRM, inventory, projects, and HR all live in a single record structure. That means when an AI feature analyses a variance or flags an anomaly, it’s working from the same source of truth your finance team is looking at, not a stale export. The NetSuite Analytics Warehouse (NSAW) extends this further. Running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, it pulls from one or more NetSuite accounts, layers in semantic context, and provides the environment where machine learning models and AI agents actually run. Anomaly detection, forecast models, and cross-ledger reconciliations all depend on what’s in there.

The consequences for customers preparing for NetSuite Next: master data quality isn’t just a housekeeping task; it directly determines how useful Ask Oracle and AI agents will be to you and your team. Inconsistent vendor names, missing chart of accounts mappings, or sparse transaction history (Exception Management trains on roughly 18 months of data) will come up as poor AI outputs. It would be a shame to waste a great tool due to a lack of data.

Core Features Available Now

It’s worth being clear about what’s already in production, because customers often underestimate what’s already live in their accounts.

  • Text Enhance is available across 22 languages and handles content drafting for item descriptions, customer communications, and vendor notes. It won’t replace a copywriter, but it cuts meaningful time off high-volume, repetitive text tasks.
  • Exception Management runs ML models trained on your own transaction history (roughly 18 months of data), scanning hourly for outliers in GL postings, vendor payments, and inventory movements. In our experience, this is one of the fastest wins for finance teams: it brings to your attention things that would otherwise sit undetected until month-end close.
  • EPM reconciliation matching uses AI to suggest matches with confidence scores, which reduces the manual effort in intercompany reconciliations significantly. Narrative Reporting can generate natural language variance summaries directly from EPM data.
  • NSAW predictive models cover churn risk, stockout likelihood, and markdown optimisation. The natural language query layer means non-technical users can ask questions of the analytics warehouse without building reports.

💡
One compliance note worth flagging: as of 2026, some generative AI features in NetSuite are not HIPAA-compliant and should not be used with ePHI. If your organisation handles protected health information, review Oracle’s current documentation before enabling these features.

Ask Oracle

Ask Oracle is probably the feature is most talked about since SuiteConnect 2026. The concept is simple: instead of navigating menus or constructing a saved search, you type a question in the search bar and get an answer; with a table, chart, or narrative summary attached.

The practical example Oracle demonstrates is something like “show me invoices over 60 days for our top 10 UK customers.” That used to mean building a saved search, applying the right filters, checking the date range, and then probably exporting it to a spreadsheet to make it presentable. Ask Oracle returns it in seconds. What makes it trustworthy from a governance perspective is that it respects existing role-based access controls and subsidiary restrictions. A sales rep in one region won’t see data they don’t have permission to see.

The relationship with saved searches deserves a clear answer because we get asked about it often: Ask Oracle doesn’t fully replace them. Saved searches still handle scheduled reporting, dashboard widgets, integrations, and complex multi-filter logic that needs to run consistently. Ask Oracle is for the ad hoc question you’d otherwise spend 20 minutes building a search for. Both have a place. Early Ask Oracle releases focus on retrieval and analysis, which will definitely come in handy for many users.

AI Canvas

AI canvas is best understood as NetSuite’s answer to the endless export-to-Excel cycle. It’s an interactive workspace within the platform where teams can build budget scenarios, review pipeline, assess inventory risk, and assemble board packs; all against live ERP data, without leaving NetSuite. The workspace combines tiles: charts, AI-written commentary, checklists, and scenario comparisons that update as the underlying data changes.

The promise is that a CFO can open a board pack view and see numbers that are current, not numbers that were current when someone last exported them two days ago. The canvas is functional, but it’s not yet the fully polished collaborative environment. That said, the potential is real, and the organisations that pilot it now, in a sandbox, with realistic data, before any core planning processes depend on it, will be in a much stronger position when the feature matures over the next 12 months.

AI Agents

AI agents are a part of the NetSuite Next roadmap that excites people the most and also generates the most questions about risk. The concept: instead of a workflow that executes rules you defined, an agent reasons across your data, decides what needs to happen, drafts the action, and brings it to a human for approval. The use cases Oracle has demonstrated include a collections agent that monitors AR aging and drafts dunning emails for review; an inventory agent that proposes stock transfers when it detects supply chain risk; and a period-close agent that prepares checklists, flags unusual variances in GL postings, and monitors bank feeds for discrepancies.

In each case, the agent does the analysis and the legwork; a human approves before anything is posted or sent. That human-in-the-loop design is deliberate, and for good reason. These agents operate within a system that controls your financials, inventory, and vendor relationships. Oracle has been clear that agents cannot post journals, release inventory, or modify master data without explicit sign-off. That governance architecture needs to be understood and configured correctly before any agent touches a production workflow.

A practical note on timing: most agentic features are in preview or phased rollout as of mid-2026, with broader access expected through 2027. Oracle’s future product disclaimer applies to all of this. The right approach right now is to pilot in a sandbox with realistic data, define your approval thresholds clearly, and document agent behaviour before it goes to production.

FAQ

Is NetSuite AI included in my existing licence?

It depends on the feature. Anomaly detection and some Text Enhance capabilities are bundled with relevant modules. NetSuite Next, including the Redwood UI and core Ask Oracle functionality, has been stated by Oracle as being available to existing customers at no extra cost. EPM, NSAW, and certain advanced AI features are separate licensed products. Before making any plans, you can confirm it with us based on your current licence.

When will NetSuite Next be available in my region?

North American customers were in the first wave, with rollout between late 2025 and 2026. EMEA and APAC availability is expected to follow, but Oracle hasn’t committed to specific dates for those regions.

Do I still need saved searches once Ask Oracle is live?

Most likely yes, as they serve different purposes. Saved searches are the right tool for anything that runs on a schedule, feeds a dashboard, powers an integration, or requires complex multi-filter logic to run consistently. Ask Oracle handles the ad hoc question you’d otherwise build a one-time search for. Think of them as complementary rather than competitive.

How does NetSuite AI handle data privacy and security?

AI features in NetSuite respect the same role-based access controls, subsidiary restrictions, and approval hierarchies as the rest of the platform; AI can’t see more than the user running the query.
